Autopsy To Determine Cause Of Police Officer's Death

The NYPD is mourning the loss of one of its own Wednesday. Officer Francis Hennessy died Tuesday, one day after he suffered an apparent heart attack while responding to a call in Brooklyn.

He is the first officer to die in the line of duty this year.

Hennessy, 35, collapsed on the street shortly after responding to a call of a man with a gun at Farragut Road and Flatbush Avenue around 9:30 Monday night. The call turned out to be unfounded.

An autopsy will be performed to determine exactly how he died.

The officer was assigned to a scooter unit in the 70th Precinct.

He was an 8 year veteran of the force. He leaves behind a wife and two children.
