June 14, 2005 -- The rape of an art student at a G-line subway station last week may have been averted had police been on duty there, a group of union leaders said yesterday in seeking a larger "human presence" at stations.
Patrolmen's Benevolent Association President Patrick Lynch and others took turns blasting state and city officials for not better manning the anti-terror substation on the subway platform where the rape took place — a so-called "Omega posts."
"We're calling on the mayor and governor to take a stand now," said Ed Watts, a spokesman for Transit Workers Union Local 100.
