July 31, 2000
Dear Member:
Today Monday, July 31 signals the beginning of the third week of the PBA’s accelerated advertising campaign. Last week, TV spots were added to our campaign to promote the interests of the PBA membership and our quest for a fair collective bargaining agreement and for the credit and respect we deserve.
The radio and TV ads (on NY 1) will resume on Monday and continue on each weekday. PLUS, a dramatic series of full-color display ads will begin appearing in the subways toward the end of next week, continuing throughout the months of August and September and slightly beyond. These displays will be in a format known as “brand cars,” in which half of all the ads in a particular subway car (one entire side of each car) will contain our message in different shapes and sizes. This advertising technique is designed to engage the undivided attention of the subway-riding public, a very effective and eye-catching approach.
These ads will appear on 570 subway cars, representing ten percent of the entire citywide fleet.
We have timed these displays to follow as soon as possible the expiration of our current collective bargaining agreement on July 31.
Stay tuned for additional communications and schedules as the advertising campaign progresses.
Fraternally,
Patrick J. Lynch
President
