Finest Message #011621 set forth the procedures for commanding officers to document possible exposures to airborne contaminants by members of the service who were present in the vicinity of the World Trade Center as part of the rescue, traffic or other support response. The message directed commanding officers to submit a report to the Medical Division identifying all members of the service, both uniform and civilian, who were assigned to report, or who voluntarily reported, to the scene. Periodic updates from commanding officers will be accepted by the Medical Division through the conclusion of the rescue and recovery mission.
To insure that all possible exposures are properly documented, we urge all affected members to check with their commanding officers. Any member whose request for an exposure number is denied should immediately contact their delegate who will bring it to the attention of a borough representative.
We are informed by the Office of Labor Relations that upon receipt of reports from commanding officers the Medical Division will forward a memorandum to the respective commanding officer with the designated citywide exposure number.
If you have any further questions regarding this matter, please contact your borough representatives.
Fraternally,
Patrick J. Lynch
