Re: World Trade Center Worker and
Volunteer Medical Screening Program

The Mount Sinai-Irving J. Selikoff Center of Occupational and Environmental Medicine in partnership with the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health will establish a comprehensive program of medical assessment, outreach, education and diagnostic referrals for rescue, recovery, volunteer and other workers who performed rescue and recovery work at Ground Zero after the September 11th attacks. This is a research project focused on monitoring newly developed respiratory problems such as asthma, bronchitis, persistent sinusitis, and laryngitis to evaluate whether these illnesses will develop into chronic ailments in the future.

An Advisory Committee will establish the guidelines for this program over the course of the next several months. I will continue to keep you advised of the program as it develops.

Fraternally,

Patrick J. Lynch
