To All Delegates and Members

August 1, 2002

Thanks to your efforts and those of your family and friends and other right-thinking New Yorkers, Anthony Bottom has been denied parole. Bottom is the vicious and unrepentant Black Liberation Army assassin who killed Police Officers Joseph Piagentini and Waverly Jones 31 years ago.

This was one of the most infamous cop killings in NYPD history and part of a nationwide wave of murders of police officers by the Black Panthers and other so-called black militants. With two others on the night of May 12, 1971, Bottom, now known as Jalil Abdul Muntaqim, ambushed these police officers, killing Officer Jones quickly with four gunshots and Officer Piagentini slowly and cruelly with 13 gunshots.

Thousands upon thousands of you and your friends wrote to the PBA and to the Parole Board opposing freedom this domestic terrorist, and your voices were heard. Once again, it shows what you can accomplish when you stand together as members of a proud police union. Congratulations. The families of these police officers thank you, and I thank you, too.

Fraternally,

Patrick J. Lynch
President
