The Governor has signed State Senate Bill No. S2363 into law granting additional credit on competitive examinations to children of police officers killed in the line-of-duty.
This piece of legislation will grant ten additional points to eligible children on all civil service examinations leading to the establishment of an eligible list for public sector employment in the municipality where the parent worked. Additionally, the legislation gives the eligible child the option to accept or reject the additional credit.
In all cases, the added credit will be computed into the score of eligible children only after a passing grade has been attained.
This bill represents the latest success in an aggressive legislative agenda that has brought us permanent rights to bring Interest Arbitrations before PERB, Increased Take Home Pay, Pension Compensation based on the final year salary Also, the ability for 20 yr. veterans to bank Variable Supplement Payments while continuing to work.
The Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association will continue to maintain an active presence in Albany in a never-ending effort to secure legislation favorable to our active members and the surviving families of those officers who have made the supreme sacrifice.
Fraternally,
Patrick J. Lynch
President
