To All Delegates and Members

January 7, 2003

Happy New Year and welcome to the revised PBA website.

Those of you who have been on the job for a decade or more will remember the days when there was little or no information coming from the PBA to its members. As a police officer in the 90 Precinct, I can still remember the frustration of paying union dues and wondering what the PBA was doing to help me and my brother and sister officers.

Since taking office in 1999, one of my first priorities as president of this great union was to make it more responsive to the needs of its members and that meant, among other things, keeping them informed of what the union was doing on their behalf.

Along with direct communications from delegates and board members, detailed newsletters and direct mail to members' homes, another important opportunity to communicate with our members is through this website.

We took the old, lifeless website established by our predecessors and turned it into a modern, responsive website which provides useful information to our members on demand. We’re even using it to compile a list of active member e-mail addresses – a work in progress – so that we can eventually send urgent information directly to the e-mail boxes of our members who use the internet regularly.

As you can instantly see, the new 2003 version of the website reflects the proud and patriotic tradition of being a police officer in New York City. Along with improvements we’ve made over the past three years like posting media coverage, providing video of major stories and e-mail communication with the members of the board, we have added a digitized version of the PBA’s magazine “New York’s Finest.”

We hope you enjoy our new website and find it interesting and informative. Don’t forget that if you have any comments or ideas for the website, just click on “Contact Us” and send your thoughts along.

Fraternally,

Patrick J. Lynch
President
