This past October I wrote to inform you of a number
of significant benefit enhancements that were implemented for both
the active and retiree welfare funds of the PBA. These improvements
were made possible by several key steps that the Executive Board
took to effectively manage and forecast the benefits provided to
the entire PBA membership well into the future. Those steps, coupled
with last fall’s PERB award, has enabled us to bring both
the active and retiree funds back to financial stability, as well
as provide significant enhancements to a number of key benefit areas
that had remained unchanged for a number of years.
One of the most significant benefit enhancements
that was addressed and placed into effect on January 1, 2003, is
the PBA Dental Schedule of Allowances increase (see active
and retiree).
The schedule of allowances paid to our participating dental providers
and members who do not utilize participating dentists, has been
significantly increased for both actives and retirees. I have enclosed
a copy of our enhanced schedule for your information, and ask that
you familiarize yourself with this important document.
Additionally, over the past three months, the PBA
Funds Office has been re-contracting with our present Dental Panel
as well as soliciting additional high quality dentists to become
part of the PBA team. We have already received a substantial number
of new panel participant contracts and are in the process of formally
adding them to our list of participating dental providers. We will
be advising you of the results of our recruitment effort and providing
you with a new 2003 PBA Dental Provider Directory shortly. We know
you will be pleased with the results of this important enhancement
to your PBA benefits.
We thank you for your continued cooperation, confidence
and support and invite you to contact our Funds Office at (212)
349-7560, should you have any questions regarding this enhancement
or if we may be of further assistance to you. We hope you find this
information helpful.
Fraternally,
Patrick J. Lynch
