To All Delegates and Members

RE: PBA Election

The 2003 Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association (“PBA”) election has been concluded with the tabulation of all the ballots by the American Arbitration Association (“AAA”). Below is the breakdown of all the citywide and borough races.

We want to thank you for taking the time to participate in this important process. The AAA informed us that the average turnout for a union election is 30%, while the turnout for the PBA 2003 election was over 53%, far greater than the average. We will continue our efforts to involve all members in the important work of the union.

On a more personal note, we want to thank you for your loyalty and support over the past four years. Over 70% of the membership expressed approval of the direction this organization is heading under the current leadership. This mandate sends a clear message to elected officials and others that we speak with one voice.

This PBA administration will continue to fight hard to improve levels of compensation, working conditions and respect for our members — all of whom deserve nothing less.

Now that the election is behind us, we must continue to stand as one. Difficult negotiations lie ahead with the City and other new challenges to this organization and its membership will likely emerge. Only in unity will we be able to achieve our goals and confront these challenges.

Finally, we want to thank the PBA Teller’s Committee and its chairman, John Curtis, for all the hard work in conducting the election.

Fraternally,

Patrick J. Lynch
President
