July 27, 2005
The New York Police Department’s Office of Labor Relations has informed us that the salary increase and retroactive pay for salary and overtime will be included in the August 12, 2005 paychecks. Retroactive monies on night shift differential will be in the paycheck of August 26th. And retroactive payments on holiday pay will come sometime thereafter.
We are told that Retirees will receive their retroactive monies at the same time as Active members. Those who retired prior to January 1, 2005 will have the back pay mailed to the last address on file at the Payroll Section. If a member has moved since retirement, he or she should send a notarized letter to the Director, Payroll Section, 1 Police Plaza, Room 1018, New York, NY 10038, identifying himself or herself and providing the new address. Members who have retired in 2005 will have the retroactive checks sent to their last command.
On a related issue, despite the rendering of this award, we are currently working without a contract. On June 28, 2005, we hand delivered a letter to Jim Hanley, the City’s Labor Commissioner, requesting that negotiations commence immediately for the 2004 bargaining round. We followed that up with a letter of July 6, 2005, asking the City to schedule dates for negotiation. The first negotiation date has been scheduled for August 9, 2005.
We will keep you informed as the developments occur during this bargaining round.
Fraternally,
Patrick J. Lynch
President
