To All Delegates and Members

Successfully getting a law passed that benefits our members is a long and difficult task. Having a law implemented requires finding an elected official to sponsor it, submitting it to the proper legislative committees in Albany for review and achieving passage in Senate and Assembly. In some cases a "home rule message" from the City Council is required before a bill can be considered in Albany. If a bill is passed in both houses then it goes to the Governor for consideration. The Governor has the option of signing the bill into law or vetoing the bill. There are literally hundreds of pieces of legislation in the pipeline at any given point, and it is a major achievement to get a piece of legislation passed by both houses but it’s not law yet.

I am please to report that as a result of a great deal of hard work and personal lobbying by this administration, we have been able to move 19 pieces of legislation through the process of being approved by both houses. But the game is not yet won because the next hurdle is to convince the Governor to sign these bills into law. We are prepared to make every effort humanly possible to convince the Governor to sign these items into law and we will keep you informed of our progress.
