On February 11, 1982, Samuel Hamilton was involved in killing 56-year-old New York Housing Police Officer James P. Carragher.
James was a loving husband and devoted father of four daughters and two grandchildren. He was a World War II Veteran who served in The United States Navy and then went on to serve the people of New York City as a NYC Housing Police Officer for sixteen years.

On the evening of February 11, 1982, Police Officer Carragher was returning home from work when he was approached by three males who attempted to rob him a few feet from his doorstep. Police Officer Carragher identified himself as a Police Officer and was then fired upon by his assailants. Despite being mortally wounded, Officer Carragher fired five rounds from his service revolver striking Samuel Hamilton one time in the stomach.
James and his family have paid the ultimate sacrifice for this city. Samuel Hamilton is up for parole in October 2006. Please do not let this COP KILLER be released from prison. Please give James’ family and friend’s peace of mind knowing that James’ killer remains behind bars where he belongs.
Fraternally,
Patrick J. Lynch
