An officer in permanent rank may
appeal his or her performance evaluation if the evaluation contains
factual errors, is based on the evaluation rater's misinterpretation
of instructions, is based on bias or prejudice, or if it is based
on other facts or circumstances not properly the subject of evaluation.
See Administrative
Guide Procedure No. 303-20.
It is important that if your evaluation does not properly reflect
your performance, that you appeal the evaluation. A negative evaluation
can limit an officer's ability to receive discretionary benefits,
including but not limited to promotions, discretionary assignments,
extra compensation opportunities, off-duty employment and scholarships.
Negative evaluations may also be used as a basis to impose discipline.
