Hello, this is Recording Secretary Bob Zink. Thanks
for calling the PBA Hotline.
The following is a update on the 1.5% portion of the past contract.
As you may recall, the City attempted to give all 1.5% of the PERB
award’s additional compensation to entry level officers.
The PBA negotiated hard, arguing that the monies should be distributed
more fairly across the unit. As a result, we reached the following
agreement which provides:
In the 6th and 11th and 16th year, longevity will increase by $500.
In the 21st year, longevity will increase by $525 making top pay
with longevity a total of $60,818.
With the PERB decision, the entry level salary for police officers
has gone from $31,305 under our last contract to $36,878 and the
5th year base pay will now be $43,108, as opposed to $38,052 under
the expired agreement.
According to the Department, you can expect the back pay from the
1.5% additional compensation to be in the February 28th check. Night
Differential will appear on March 14.

On Monday, February 3, the PBA joined state senator Charles Schumer
in calling for federal funding for first responders who have been
activated for military duty.
Given the dramatically reduced staffing that the department is
already suffering, any additional loss of staffing will put neighborhoods
at danger for rising crime.
Federal funding might allow the department to replace those activiated
officers with police officers on overtime.

Don’t forget to sign up for the Fair Labor Standards Act
lawsuit.
Our legal team believes that we have a good chance of winning this
suit which may result in settlement money for you and changes to
the department’s leave policy.
The PBA cannot file a FLSA suit on your behalf. Each individual
officer must sign up to be part of the suit and it won’t cost
you anything upfront.
You can get forms and more information from your delegates or download
them from the PBA website.
This is Recording Secretary Bob Zink, and thank you for calling
the PBA Hotline.
