Hello. This is Pat Lynch, President of the New York
City Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association.
By now, you should have received your raises and all back pay and
adjustments for night differential and overtime worked during the
period of the contract.
It is important that you double-check the amount paid to you by
the department to insure accuracy.
If you find any problem or suspect that an error was made in calculating
your back pay or adjustments, you must file a pay/time inquiry form
PD138-152 and turn it into your payroll section. You should anticipate
being asked to provide backup documentation in support of the problem.
Don’t take the Department’s calculations for granted.
Check them out.
There has been more talk in the media about budget problems and
possible layoffs. It is the PBA’s view that the Department’s
strength is already too low to fight crime effectively, staff all
of the anti-terrorism assignments and to police all of the special
events and rallies that occur here.
The mayor has asked for draconian cuts to health and welfare funds
that represent a salary reduction to our members. The PBA cannot
sanction that.
Back during the fiscal crisis of the 1970’s, the city asked
and received major concessions and givebacks from the unions to
help with the problem. Despite the union support, the city laid
off 5,000 employees and only hired back about 2,000 later.
We must learn from the past and not make the same mistake twice.
We are calling on the city to exempt the NYPD from any additional
budget cuts or reduction in strength for the safety of this city.
This is Pat Lynch. Thank you for calling the PBA Hotline.
