Hello. This is Bob Zink, Recording Secretary for the
New York City Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association.
On Monday, May 12th, Pat Lynch issued a press release with information
that demonstrated that pressure is being applied to our members
to write summonses.
Lynch told the media that with over 1,000 fewer police officers
working during the first four months of this year, our precinct
officers have issued over 75,000 more summonses.
Lynch said, “Policing in NYC is no longer about fighting
crime and protecting the community, it’s about raising money.”
On Thursday, May 15th, Pat Lynch held a news conference where he
presented hard evidence of threats against police officers who didn’t
meet their quota of summonses. He also announced a public information
campaign called “Don’t Blame the Cop” which will
direct the anger and blame for the escalation in summons writing
on City Hall.
The radio spots will begin airing on Monday, May 19 on major stations.
It is scheduled to run during the Howard Stern Show, Imus in the
Morning and on Curtis and Kuby Show. Additionally, it will run during
Mayor Bloomberg’s Friday radio address on WABC Radio.
The print ad is slated to hit the Chief Leader on Tuesday, May
27, and will run in the Daily News, Post and Newsday each day following.
We are in the process of putting someof the news coverage and information
about the upcoming “Don’t Blame the Cop” on the
PBA website.
This is Recording Secretary Bob Zink. Thanks for calling the PBA
Hotline.
