PBA HotlineOctober 15, 2003

Hello, this is Robert Zink Recording Secretary of the New York City Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association. Thanks for calling the PBA Hotline.

Contract Negotiations

Recently, the Uniformed Labor Coalition (the ULC) which is made up of all the Police and Fire unions, took a legal step to preserve the rights of our members regarding health benefits.

At a recent meeting of the Municipal Labor Coalition (the MLC) we took the legal step of indicating that the MLC does not represent uniformed members in the collective bargaining of health benefits.

The ULC has requested information regarding the use of certain medications so that we can make an informed judgment regarding bargaining health coverage.

While we firmly believe in union solidarity and strength in numbers, our first obligation is to represent your interests to the best of our ability. Once we obtain the information we are seeking, we may choose to allow the MLC to negotiate on our behalf, or we may decide to negotiate health benefits ourselves.

FLSA Lawsuit Update

So far, about 14,000 police officers and detectives have joined the class action suit against the NPPD alleging violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

The opportunity to join this suit is coming to a close in November so I encourage anyone who has not filed to do so immediately. You can join the suit by clicking here or by calling 1-800-811-6530.

This is Robert Zink, Recording Secretary. Thanks for calling the PBA Hotline.
