Hello, this is John Puglissi, First Vice President of the New
York City Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association. Thanks for calling the PBA
Hotline.
We are pleased to announce that the department has reconsidered its elimination
of two vacation-pick weeks during the Republican National Convention.
You may recall that in August, the department transmitted a Finest message
that eliminated the last week in August and the first week in September 2004 as
an opportunity for vacation pick. It was the PBA’s view that this was an
unfair practice to eliminate two choice summer weeks and was a violation of our
contract.
The PBA, joined by the superior officers unions, took immediate steps to position
our members for a grievance and possible legal action but we are happy to announce
that after a meeting between Pat Lynch and Police Commissioner Kelly, the department
reinstated the two weeks for vacation picks for our members.
On another note, on Friday, October 24th, the Patrolmen’s Benevolent
Association became the first municipal union to endorse Senator Charles Schumer
for reelection.
Pat Lynch and many of the PBA’s board members joined Senator Schumer
outside the 13th precinct station house for the announcement. Senator Schumer
has been a staunch advocate on police issues and has fought to ban cop killer
bullets and assault weapons and has delivered major anti-terrorism funding for
police.
Don’t forget to keep up with the latest information by visiting the PBA
website and by calling this hotline regularly.
This is John Puglissi. Thanks for calling the PBA Hotline.
