November

Hello, this is Mubarak Abdul-Jabbar, Second Vice-President of
the New York City Patrolmen's Benevolent Association. Thank you
for calling the PBA Hotline.
Election news
The PBA has scored a major win in November's general
election with about 90% of our endorsements winning election.
We are happy to report that every New York City
Council candidate who received the PBA's endorsment for election
were victorious. The PBA helped to elect a total of 43 City Council
members this time out.
In Nassau county, this PBA played a role in electing
36 officials into office. Council members, judges, county supervisors
and supreme court judges in Nassau county proudly carried the NYC
PBA's endorsement to the voters and the voters carried them into
office. We also supported 11 victorious candidates for various
offices in Suffolk, Ulster, Putnam, Rensselear and other counties
as well.

Vacation controversy
After a meeting with the police commissioner, the
department has reconsidered its elimination of two vacation-pick
weeks during the Republican national convention. It was the PBA's
view that this was an unfair practice to eliminate two choice summer
weeks and was a violation of our contract. The two weeks that
are being reinstated are Monday, August 23, 2004 through Sunday,
September 5, 2004.
Donated gunlocks
We have received the second installment of 10,000
donated gunlocks from Project Childsafe. These locks will be distributed
through your board members. The PBA is coordinating the final delivery
of locks with Project Childsafe.
Keep up with the latest information by visiting
