Hello. This is Pat Lynch, President of the New York City Patrolmen’s
Benevolent Association.
Contract Negotiations
Contract negotiations continue. At the last session the City agreed
to form a subcommittee on charts to consider a revision of our work schedule.
The City is still interested in creating an 8 hour and 15 minute tour
while boosting the number of appearances by ten. We intend to use the
committee to explore the benefits being realized nationwide by other
police jurisdictions from a modern police chart with fewer appearances.
A discussion about mutuals was also approached at the last session.
The city seems receptive to the concept and we will pursue that at the
bargaining table as well.
Parole Hearing
Cop killer Herman Bell is up for parole this year and his hearing at
the state parole board is scheduled for January 9, 2004.
Your delegates have petitions opposing the parole of this assassin in
the murder of Police Officer Joseph Piagentini and Police Officer Waverly
Jones. Please get as many signatures as possible and get them to your
borough representatives and delegates.
The widow of Police Officer Piagentini and family members of Police
Officer Jones will present the signed petitions to the parole board at
the hearing.
If you do not have a copy of the petition in your command, you can download
a copy from the PBA website. This is extremely important.
9/11 Health Screening
Time is running out to enroll in one of the best September 11th assessment
and referral programs in the city.
The Mount Sinai World Trade Center Medical Screening Program – that
offers the most comprehensive health screening -- will be accepting enrollees
only through March 2004 unless funding for the program is found.
This is not a treatment program. It is an assessment and referral program
that seeks to determine the impact of World Trade Center collapse on
the health of those who worked the rescue and recovery operation.
If you worked in the area of the World Trade Center during the rescue
and recovery period, or at the Staten Island landfill it is important
that you sign up now. Call them at 1-888-702-0630.
Finally, let me take this opportunity to wish you, your family, and
your fellow Police Officers a happy, healthy and holy holiday season.
All the best.
Thank you for calling the PBA Hotline.
