Hello, this is Pat Lynch, President of the New York City Patrolmen’s
Benevolent Association.
If a funeral is a measure of who or what a person was in life,
then we buried two giants these past weeks.
The turnout for the funerals of Detectives Parker and Rafferty
were among the largest this city has ever seen. I’m sure the
thousands of uniforms that lined the streets gave some solace to
the friends and families of these two fallen heroes.
I’d like to thank all of our members who were in attendance.
You honored the loss of two great men and you did yourself and your
uniform proud.
Please continue to remember these two great men and their families
in your prayers.
Arbitration
Dates have been set for binding arbitration at PERB. Discovery
is scheduled for October 11th and opening briefs are due by October
25th.
The actual PERB hearing dates have been tentatively scheduled for
November 16, 19, 22 and 30th and for December 3, 7, 9 and 13th.
Two additional dates – December 14 and 16 -- have been reserved
should they be needed.
The arbitrator is expected to render an award sometime after those
dates. We will keep you informed of the latest developments as the
PERB process moves forward.
Bridges and Tunnels Program
New York state majority leader Joe Bruno is funding a $2 million
dollar pilot program to defray the cost of tolls on MTA bridges
and tunnels for police officers.
We are meeting with the MTA to develop a protocol for our members
to take advantage of this savings and we will inform you as soon
as the plan is in place.
We are grateful to Senator Bruno for taking the initiative to fund
this program as we continue to push to make this pilot program more
through legislation in Albany.
Thank you for calling the PBA hotline.
