November 5, 2004
Hello. This is Pat Lynch, President of the New York City Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association.
On January 28, 1980, police officer Cecil “Frank” Sledge was murdered by Salvatore DeSarno who was out of prison on parole for armed robbery.
Recently, I joined Frank Sledge’s widow, Linda, as she delivered her first victim’s impact statement to the New York State Parole Board.
The Board was also presented with petitions containing the signatures of active and retired police officers opposing parole for this cop killer and I am pleased to announce that “Crazy Sal” DeSarno has been denied parole. On behalf of the New York City PBA and the Sledge family, I thank you for taking the time support this most important issue.
Elections
The PBA made an impressive showing of winners on election day. Of the 70 races for which we found immediate results, 67 winners were endorsed by the New York City PBA. That is better than 95% of PBA-endorsed candidates winning their races.
The political strength of this great union lies in its ability to deliver votes. The results are a good indication that our members supported candidates endorsed by PBA and we thank you for supporting your union by voting in this past election day.

We are pleased that arbitrator has moved quickly in setting down our arbitration dates. We look forward to the successful conclusion of the binding arbitration process.
