PBA HotlineMarch 16, 2005

Hello, this is Pat Lynch, president of the New York City Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association.

PERB and our Contract

All arguments and presentations to the PERB panel are now completed. Final written rebuttal arguments were submitted to the panel on Monday, March 7.

The PBA did its homework, presented the most persuasive arguments with the best available expert testimony to back it up. The argument phase of the process is over and we believe we put forward the strongest case possible.

Contrary to rumors, there is no restriction on the amount of time that the panel may take to arrive at its decision but we have impressed upon the impartial arbitrator the urgent need for a decision in this matter. Our members have been suffering without a contract for over two and half years so a quick decision is imperative.

The PBA will let you know when a decision comes down as quickly as is humanly possible. Your trustees and delegates will be informed and information will be put on this hotline, on the PBA’s website.

Given the immediacy of today’s media however, it is likely that you will hear of the settlement through press reports first. While the PBA prefers to be able to tell its members first, that is not likely to occur because we cannot control the press, the city or the PERB panel.

Thanks for calling the PBA Hotline.
