PBA HotlineFebruary 17, 2006

Hello, this is PBA recording secretary Bob Zink. Thank you for calling the PBA Hotline.

Mayor Bloomberg has been saying in the press that it was the PBA’s suggestion to lower the starting pay for new recruits. That is a lie.

During negotiations the city submitted six proposed contract packages. Every one of them included a reduced starting salary for future police officers with one going as low as $23,000.

The city wanted the reduced starting salary as a cost saver and they were able to get it included in the arbitration award.

Now that their idea has come back to embarrass them, Bloomberg is trying to blame the PBA.

Fortunately, police officers and New Yorkers are not as gullible as the media that published Bloomberg’s lies.

This is Bob Zink. Thanks for calling the PBA hotline.
