PBA HotlineMay 17, 2006

Hello. This is Pat Lynch, president of the New York City Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association.

Contract Front

On April 18, the Wage Subcommittee of the PBA met with the City and outlined several plans to increase pay in our contract. Among the proposals the PBA made were: education and experience pay; terrorism\workload and safety pay; a sick leave incentive program; and gainsharing connected to the low staffing numbers we are experiencing. These proposals are modeled after pay incentive programs widely used across the nation. The City has not yet responded to these proposals. When they do we’ll keep you apprised.

Bullet-Resistant Vests

There is $12 million in the City’s budget for the purchase of 18,000 Level 3-A maximum coverage vests for members who do not have them. We are told that the vests should be purchased and distributed over the next 18 months by the department. This purchase is a direct result of work we had done with the newly elected Speaker of the City Council, Christine Quinn. We are grateful to the Speaker for shepherding this important budget item through City Hall.

10-13 Softball Tournament

The Fourth Annual Rodney Andrews/James Nemorin Softball Tournament Finals have been rescheduled because of rain. The new date is Tuesday, May 23 at 1600 hours at Keyspan Park. For more information, call 646-372-1013.

Thank you for calling the PBA Hotline.
