PBA HotlineAugust 16, 2006

Hello, this is John Puglissi, 1st Vice President of the New York City Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association and thank you for calling the PBA Hotline.

in our contract battle PERB has declared that we are at an impasse with the city and has appointed Phillip Meier as the mediator in our contract dispute. The mediation sessions are tentatively scheduled to start in early September. We will provide the dates as soon as they become available.

On another note, on Monday, August 14th, Governor George Pataki signed certain bills into law that were priority legislation for the PBA. He enacted laws that will provide line-of-duty death benefits to surviving family members of the police officers who die of illnesses or injuries resulting from 9/11 related exposure. He also signed into law a bill that will allow retired police officers who later become ill from 9/11 related exposure to reapply for an accident disability. We will provide a more detailed explanation of these bills in the near future.

We want to thank Governor Pataki who signed these important laws despite opposition from an ungrateful Mayor Bloomberg.

This is John Puglissi and thank you for calling the PBA Hotline.
