July 25

Pat Lynch appears on the set with Jim Ryan on Good Day New York, discussing the Judge Cropper story. Lynch's photo and quotes are in the New York Post story on Judge Cropper, and the Post's editorial quotes him prominently on the issue. He is also quoted in the New York Times story and mentioned in the Daily News. Lynch is also credited in the New York Times with appointing Mubarak Abdul-Jabbar to the PBA's top five as second vice-president.

Pat Lynch is quoted in a page-one story in the New York Post calling Justice Dorothy Cropper a hypocrite for her order that undercover cops should testify in open court revealing their real names. Joe Maccone is quoted in Newsday and the New York Times concerning the PBA's handling of funds distributed to the survivors of cops lost on 9/11. Lynch is seen and heard with the police commissioner on NY 1, MSNBC, Fox-5 at 11:30 a.m., WCBS-TV, WNBC-TV, WPIX, UPN-9, Fox-5 at 10 p.m. and WINS-Radio, complaining about Judge Cropper.

July 23

Stanley Crouch, in his column in the Daily News, quotes extensively from a letter he received from Pat Lynch arguing the case for a decent raise for New York City police officers, a position that Crouch strongly endorses in the column. Al O'Leary and 9/11 widow Pat Coughlin are seen and heard on NY 1 defending the PBA's distribution of funds to families of 23 officers lost on 9/11. Joe Maccone and Pat Coughlin appear on NY 1 strongly and convincingly rebutting claims by Frank Dominguez and Ed Hayes that the PBA has something to hide concerning their handling of funds distributed to the survivors of cops lost on 9/11.

Pat Lynch is quoted in the Daily News, complaining about a judge who tried to force two cops testifying in a drug case to reveal the names of undercover colleagues.

Bob Zink is paraphrased in an article in The Chief about the PBA's support for a bill before the State Legislature allowing retired New York City police officers to continue to collect their pensions while getting paid as teachers in the city public school system

Pat Lynch is mentioned in Len Levitt's "One Police Plaza Confidential" column in Newsday in an item about Rae Koshetz. NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Trails, leaving to work in Ed Hayes' law office.

Pat Lynch is quoted in two articles in the Daily News, one on the issue of prisoner escapes and the other on the bill to allow retired cops to work as city school teachers while collecting their pensions. Lynch and Al O'Leary are quoted in the Staten Island Advance story on allowing retired cops to work as teachers. Lynch's press conference on prisoner escapes is aired on Channel 7-Eyewitness NY 1, News, CBS-2, WWOR-Channel 9, WPIX-Channel 11, Fox-5 NY, WCBS-AM and WNYC.

Pat Lynch is quoted in the Daily News and Al O'Leary is quoted in Newsday in stories about how 160 NYPD cops are defecting to the Port Authority Police Dept. Lynch appears on News-4, blaming the recent rash of prisoner escapes on poor equipment and inadequate lockup facilities.

Al O'Leary is quoted in a Newsday story about Ray Kelly's policy on not hiring cops with DWI convictions: "Pat Lynch is the one who believes that hiring people with DWI tendencies creates problems in the future." Lynch is also quoted in the Upper East Side edition of Our Town, commenting on the loss of manpower at the 19th Pct. and tying it to the low salaries.

Pat Lynch is quoted in stories in Newsday and the Staten Island Advance in which he opposes parole for Anthony bottom, killer of P.O.s Joseph Piagentini and Waverly Jones. Mrs. Piagentini is quoted in the Daily News story about the issue. Lynch is mentioned in a short in the Daily News about the promotion of ESU cops to detective specialist. The PBA is mentioned in a New York Post story about Police Commissioner Kelly's new rule banning Academy recruits with DWI convictions.

WABC's Eyewitness News airs interview with the widow of assassinated P.O. Joseph Piagentini and with Pat Lynch in press conference opposing parole of the man who killed the cop 31 years ago. Fox-5 New York runs soundbite with Mrs. Piagentini (Lynch is seen).

June 28

Pat Lynch is quoted in a New York Post story about the NYPD accepting recruits with DWI records and in a Daily News story about Ray Kelly's first six months as police commissioner.

The Times, News and Post cover the Anthony Bottom parole story without quoting Lynch.

Pat Lynch is heard on WINS and News-Radio 880 urging the Parole Board to deny cop-killer Anthony Bottom's parole request. NY 1 airs interview with Police Officer Joseph Piagentini's widow. Channel 2 covers the story by using a talking head with Councilmember James Barron, who favors freedom for Bottom. Bob Zink is also heard on WCBS-Radio urging the Parole Board not to approve Bottom's release.

June 25

A photo of Pat Lynch and other PBA board members with 79 Pct. winners of "Finest of the Finest" awards appears in The Chief. Joseph Mancini is quoted in The Chief, giving Lynch's position on the State Legislature's intention to allow police officers to bank their VSF payments as an incentive to delay retirement. The PBA's scheduled press conference with family members of assassinated Police Officers Waverly Jones and Joseph Piagentini is mentioned in a Newsday story about the impending parole hearing for one of the cops' killers.

June 20

Pat Lynch is seen and heard on NY 1, Eyewitness News and Channel-9 News in PBA press conference expressing alarm over the sharp increase in police retirements and arguing that a decent pay increase is the only way to retain cops. WNYW-Fox-5 reads a short piece about the union's argument. Lynch is heard on WINS radio news on the same subject. The Daily News, citing Lynch's retirement statistics, runs a brief article on the press conference, and Newsday quotes him to the effect that many incoming recruits will enter the Academy in July without having undergone criminal and psychological background checks.

June 18

Pat Lynch's photo and quotes by Bob Linn accompany a story in The Chief about the teachers contract settlement's effect on the PBA's ultimate settlement.

Pat Lynch is quoted in a Newsday story about the NYPD's latest recruiting effort: "There is only one reason that the NYPD is not attracting enough candidates, and that's because terrorism has made policing a growth industry in America, and other police departments are dramatically out-paying the NYPD." The "police union" was similarly quoted in the New York Post story and the PBA's position was paraphrased in the Times story. PBA negotiator Bob Linn is quoted in the Times and Newsday in stories about how the teachers contract settlement will affect the police and fire unions' contract fate. The PBA's position is mentioned in a Daily News story on the same subject.
