Oct. 29

Pat Lynch appears in a photo in The Chief taken at the PBA’s endorsement of George Pataki. Lynch is quoted in the accompanying article, saying that if the United Firefighters Association got a contract exceeding the PBA’s, the police union would “absolutely” request the same.

Al O’Leary is cited in an article in The Chief about police officers getting as much as a 12.75 percent pay increase in October and retroactive pay on Nov. 22. In the evening, Pat Lynch appears on the ABC Network’s “World News Tonight” in a story about defective bullet-resistant vests.

Sept. 17

Al O’Leary is quoted in an article in The Chief, saying that the city’s representative on the PERB panel at one time discussed a 30-month deal providing 17.5 percent raises in exchange for longer tours – but no extra appearances – and then backed away from the proposal. Manhattan South Trustee John Flynn is quoted in an article in The Chief about the 9/11 memorial at ESU #1. O’Leary is quoted in a Daily News story about defective body armor.

A New York Post editorial takes the city’s side in its analysis of the PERB contract award.

Sept. 11

Pat Lynch is mentioned in a New York Times story quoting Dana Eischen, chairman of the PERB arbitration panel, to the effect that he awarded the PBA a more generous deal than the other uniformed unions because the “record evidence clearly and convincingly” demonstrated “a recruitment and retention crisis…which, if left unaddressed, will hurt public safety.”

Sept. 6

Quoting rank-and-file PBA members, the New York Times runs an article headlined, “Disappointed by Raises, Officers Praise Their Union.” The piece says police officers are blaming the mayor, the PERB panel and the city as a whole for not giving them bigger raises. Pat Lynch is quoted in a Newsday editorial and Staten Island Advance article about the arbitration decision. Al O’Leary is also quoted in the Advance story and in one in the Daily News. Newsday publishes an op/ed-page piece by O’Leary on the injustice of the necessity for our cops to moonlight to make ends meet.

Pat Lynch is quoted in two New York Times articles and in stories in the New York Post, Daily News and The Sun about the PERB contract arbitration award. Al O’Leary is quoted in the Newsday story.

Sept. 4

Pat Lynch appears on NY 1, Channels 2, 4, 5 and 7 and is heard on WCBS-Radio reacting to the contract arbitration award announced by the PERB today. Mubarak Abdul-Jabbar is profiled in the New York Times on the occasion of his elevation to PBA Second Vice President.

Sept. 3

Al O’Leary is quoted in Len Levitt’s column in Newsday, reacting to an item headlined, “PBA, Kelly Failing to Communicate.” O’Leary is also quoted in a story in The Chief about new proposals to raise funds to pay police and firefighters better. The Chief also reports that the PBA made Sen. Charles Schumer its Man of the Year at the convention.

August 28

Pat Lynch is quoted in Newsday in a story about 20 City Council members voicing their support for a dedicated tax to help pay cops more. Al O’Leary is quoted in the New York Post, responding to Mayor Bloomberg’s statement that cops need to provide givebacks for more pay. O’Leary is quoted in a Daily News story about the PBA’s political contribution to Brooklyn Assemblyman Roger Green’s reelection campaign.

August 22

Pat Lynch appears on Phil Donahue’s MSNBC talk show talking about how New York City’s cops got the “praise but no raise” after 9/11.

August 21

Pat Lynch slams the draft PERB decision’s addition of 10 more tours for police officers in a NY Times story. Pat Lynch appears live on NY1's "Inside City Hall" with Dominick Carter where he expresses the membership's outrage at the possibility of 10 additional tours of duty in the draft PERB decision. Lynch also takes a swing at the "productivity" demands made by the city by drawing comparisons between the short work day teachers have and the long tour police officers work. Pat Lynch and Al O’Leary are quoted in Bill Farrell’s column in the Daily News, discussing the proposed PERB contract arbitration decision.

August 20

Pat Lynch slams the draft PERB decision’s addition of 10 more tours for police officers in a NY Times story. Pat Lynch’s op-ed piece entitled “Cops’ pay is city’s shame” appears in the Daily News. Lynch appears in a photo and is quoted extensively in the Chief Leader’s rally/PERB draft decision story. Al O’Leary and several police officers are also quoted.

August 18

Pat Lynch’s photo accompanies a series of letters to the editor of the New York Post, most of which sympathize with the PBA’s position on a raise for New York City police officers.

August 17

Pat Lynch and several police officers are quoted in a SI Advance front page article about the rally. PBA spokesman Al O’Leary is quoted in a NY Times, Daily News and Post stories in response to Mayor Bloomberg’s announcement that the PERB decision will come in lower than the PBA’s demands

August 16

Times Square rally is carried on the front pages of the NY Times, The Post, The Daily News and inside Newsday. Pat Lynch and many police officers are quoted regarding the plight of underpaid police officers in every story. The rally with a sound bite from Lynch is seen on every television news program and segments are carried live on NY1 and NBC TV. WCBS, WINS, WABC. Metro radio also broadcast sound bites of the rally.

August 15

Pat Lynch and John Giangrasso are quoted in the New York Post story about the Times Square rally, Lynch is quoted in the Daily News story and Al O’Leary is quoted in the Newsday piece. Columnists Stanley Crouch of the Daily News and Steve Dunleavy of the New York Post write pieces urging large raises for the city’s cops. Joseph Mancini and O’Leary are quoted in the New York Sun in a story about the rally. O’Leary is also quoted in a New York Times story about the PBA posting out-of-town police job openings on its web site. The New York Post names Pat Lynch in the headline and text of an editorial criticizing the PBA’s position in the PERB arbitration. Every local TV news station plus most of the news-radio outlets use footage and sound-bites from the PBA Times Square rally.

August 14

Pat Lynch appears live at 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. with Fox-5 reporter and former NYPD detective Mike Sheehan on Good Day NY, previewing the planned PBA-UFA Times Square rally promoting a decent raise for New York City police officers. Lynch is mentioned, John Flynn and John Giangrasso are quoted and Joseph Mancini is paraphrased in a story in the Daily News previewing the rally. Al O’Leary is quoted in a Newsday story previewing the rally. Later in the day, the rally is previewed on Channels 4, 5, 7, 9, 11 and 47 and on NY1, as well as on WCBS-Radio, WINS-Radio and Metro-Radio. O’Leary is quoted in a Daily News story about the PBA posting out-of-town police job openings on its web site. Pat Lynch is mentioned in a column by the Daily News’ Michael Kramer criticizing Sen. Charles Shumer’s proposal to use FEMA funds for police and firefighter raises.

August 13

The Daily News writes about the planned police/fire rally in Times Square for fair pay. Pat Lynch and UFA Pres. Steve Cassidy are mentioned in the story while PBA Trustees John Flynn and John Giangrosso along with spokesman Joseph Mancini are quoted. The PBA’s ad “Now we need your support” is also discussed. Pat Lynch is mentioned and his photo is featured in a series of letters to the editor in the New York Post, most of which urge a “hefty” raise for New York City police officers.
