Lynch's support for Roger Toussaint and the Transport Workers Union is mentioned in The Chief's editorial.
Dec. 16 Pat Lynch's photo and quotes accompany an article in the Daily News about the impending Transit strike: "The one thing that's concerning us very much is the lack of movement on the side of the MTA to come to the table with a realistic offer...What's also troubling is the constant talk of trying to criminalize the effort for workers in this city to try to get to a contract that can put food on their table." October
Oct. 30 Pat Lynch is quoted in a Daily News article about a provision in the United Firefighters Assn. contract settlement that forces veteran cops who switch to the FDNY to start at rookie pay: "Lowering the starting salary for cops who roll over to the FDNY is a thinly veiled attempt to hold unhappy police officers hostage."
Oct. 23 The Daily News quotes Pat Lynch in an article about the attempt by drug kingpin John McCaskell, implicated in the 1988 assassination of Police Officer Edward Byrne, to seek early release from his 25-years-to-life prison term under the state's newly relaxed Rockefeller drug laws: "But Patrick Lynch...said that McCaskell should have been charged as an accomplice in Byrne's killing," the Daily News reports. "If you speak of killing a police officer, if you hid the gun, if you helped those who pulled the trigger, you should be charged with the murder. He should not be allowed leniency."
Oct. 22 Pat Lynch is quoted in the New York Times, Daily News, New York Post, Newsday and the Staten Island Advance on the Conroy conviction: "As police officers, we face danger and uncertainty every time we go to work to protect this city. This verdict holds a police officer criminally responsible for protecting himself, and that has to make cops wonder if it's worth the risk. These tragic circumstances caused the death of an innocent man, and that is deeply regrettable. But it would be a far greater tragedy to allow this city to return to a crime-ridden state because police officers don't trust the city to give them the benefit of a doubt when something goes wrong."

A lot of people aren't going to want to come to the job at that rate...The city's bargaining approach was unfair. Their negotiating style is they put draconian steps on the table that no one can touch."

We are going to discuss all aspects with the committee and then we will come to a conclusion."
September
Sep. 27 Pat Lynch is quoted in the Daily News and the Chief-Leader in articles about the recent 39.3 percent reduction in applicants for the Police Academy and its connection to the drastically slashed starting salary. His photo accompanies the Chief story. "People are willing to sacrifice at the start of their careers if they see a payoff," he told the News. "Right now they don't." He told the Chief: "I think it's another signal of the huge recruitment and retention problem that the city has been hiding behind for a long time. There is no light at the end of the tunnel. We have to fix the foundation of the problem before we can keep building." The Chief also publishes a letter by Lynch contradicting an article in the newspaper's last issue that suggested the PBA "was willing to sell out the unborn" in the PERB arbitration. "After the neutral arbitrator had unequivocally decided to reduce the salary and benefits of new hires, the PBA sought to limit the impact of the arbitrator's decision on new hires," Lynch wrote. The New York Post also quotes Lynch in an editorial about growing opposition to the International Freedom Center at Ground Zero: "Last week, the Patrolmen's Benevolent Association said it, too, was "deeply disturbed" by the IFC vision. "We believe that the nearly 3,000 people who perished during the worst single attack this nation has ever seen deserve the respect and honor of a memorial that will never denigrate America," wrote PBA President Pay Lynch.
Sep. 25 In a New York Post article on Hillary Clinton's oppostion to the International Freedom Center at Ground Zero, Pat Lynch says "It's not a political issue — it's an issue of right and wrong. In our view, the IFC simply doesn't belong at Ground Zero, and we appreciate Sen. Clinton's support."

Sep. 22 Pat Lynch's photo and quotes accompany a New York Post article about growing opposition to the proposed International Freedom Center at Ground Zero: "The World Trade Center is not a place for domestic or international politics," Lynch is quoted from a letter he wrote to the World Trade Center Memorial Foundation. "It is not a place for inappropriate art or entertainment and programming that trivializes or ignores the history of the site." Lynch told The Post: "We have active and retired members who participated in the largest rescue in this nation's history, and they want that site respected for what it is." The Post's editorial page praises the PBA's position. On WNBC (video) Pat Lynch argues that Ground Zero is no place for the International Freedom Center
