PRESS RELEASE

February 26, 2015

Appellate Court allows NYCLU/PBA quota whistleblower suit to go forward

PBA president Patrick J. Lynch said:

“This union has been warning about the dangers of police quotas for over a decade.  We achieved changes to the law that made quotas for any police action illegal because removing discretion from a police officer results in poor relations with the community. New York City police officers have the same right and obligation to speak out against unjust or unfair policies as any other citizen.  This decision comes at an important time because despite management’s claim that they want quality not quantity, illegal quotas for police activities are, unfortunately, alive and well in the NYPD.”
