PBA honors Police Officer Richard Rainey shot 34 years ago

PBA president Patrick J. Lynch said:

“Richard Rainey was an unsung hero of the NYPD who was shot during the stop of a van sought in a string of burglaries.  His partner, Police Officer John Scarangella, died from wounds in the same shooting.  Richard, like so many other men and women in uniform, put himself between dangerous criminals and the good people of the city.  For his sacrifice, he lived a life in pain, with constant reminders of that terrible day and the 14 gunshot wounds he took to his legs.  He was and is a true hero and we all owe him a debt of gratitude for his service.”
