PBA President’s statement regarding news media seeking intervention in body cam video suit

Some media incorrectly report that the PBA’s suit is an attempt to block the release of all body cam video footage

PBA president Patrick J. Lynch said:

“The PBA’s suit is only seeking compliance with the existing law, which requires that this footage not be released without a court order following a hearing by all parties. Moreover, if news organizations are granted access to all of this footage, it would mean that often highly private, embarrassing, or disturbing footage of private citizens — taken without their permission — would be available for publication without restriction. Do all of the subjects and bystanders captured on body-worn camera, or their families, really want to see these moment replayed endlessly in the public eye?”
