Panel Gives NYPD 11.5 Percent Pay Increase

An arbitrator panel empowered to set the terms of a two-year contract for the New York Police Department has signed off on an award giving officers an 11.5 percent pay increase. A union spokesman said the neutral member and the union representative has agreed to the award, which was less than the 14 percent raise proposed in an earlier draft, which would have required officers to work 10 additional shifts a year. Jay W. Waks, a partner at Kaye Scholer, who represented the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association, described the award as “historic, by far one of the largest arbitration awards ever.”
