PBA throws weight behind Donovan
ADVANCE STAFF WRITER
Praising the Staten Island district attorney's office for its partnership
with police officers in the city, the president of the Patrolmen's Benevolent
Association yesterday endorsed the GOP incumbent for re-election as district
attorney.
Standing outside state Supreme Court in St. George, Patrick Lynch
said District Attorney Daniel Donovan has done a great job working "hand-in-hand" with
the Island's three police precincts to get criminals off the street.
"He's the person who understands the criminal justice system
and how the police officer fits into that justice system and the
importance to New York City police officers' partnership with enforcement," Lynch
said. "We do not give endorsements, a candidate earns the
endorsement. Dan Donovan has earned this endorsement."
The PBA, which represents rank-and-file police officers, said
the community would benefit from having Donovan in office for another
four years.
"We know this candidate and we know what he's done in office
joining with us," Lynch said. "He's done the right thing,
he's made the right, difficult calls and we stay with the candidate
that's proven himself to us."
Donovan responded that he is "humbled" over receiving
the PBA's endorsement.
"They're the largest union in the greatest police department
in the world," he said. "These are our partners in
our fight against crime. I'm grateful that they feel this way about
me."
