This memorial
lies thousands of miles from New York City at the visitor's center
at Red Rock Canyon amid the cactus and sagebrush in Nevada.
The words read "This memorial is dedicated to the thousands of innocents
who lost their lives during the terrorist attacks on
September 11, 2001.
It also honors
those brave men and women who risked
their lives in the rescue efforts.
Friends of Red
Rock Canyon, Red Rock Canyon
Interpretive Association, the Bureau of Land Management
and Aquarius Stone products worked together
to create the nation's first permanent memorial to
commemorate this tragic event.
This tribute
to the victims and heroes was conceived on
September 14, 2001 and was formally dedicated on
September 29, 2001."
