Retired NYPD officers answer the call.
The NYC Verrazano 10-13 Association and its parent organization, the National
NYPD 10-13 Organizations, recently presented checks for $1,500 to two
active officers whose children are suffering from serious illnesses requiring
expensive medical care. The beneficiaries are Tyler, two-year-old son
of P.O. Steve Vranick of the Queens Task Force, and Matthew, 12-year-old
son of Sgt. Danny Von Dollen of the 20 Pct. Pictured above, left, are
(standing, l-r) PBA Queens North Trustee Bob Iaboni, Queens North Financial
Secretary Dan Tirelli, National 10-13 President Tony Perrone, Verrazano
Secretary Ruth Richards, President Harry Morse Jr., Vice President Rich
Commesso, Trustee Gary Glessing and Manhattan North Financial Secretary
Joe Strong; seated are (l-r) Steve Vranick, Matthew Von Dollen and Danny

On the road with the “Rolling 9/11 Memorial.”
The impressive 12-wheel rig pictured above is the brainchild of John and
Amy Holmgren of Shafer, Minn. They own and operate the truck to deliver
frozen foods to outlets throughout the Midwest, and one day a year or
so ago decided they wanted to do something to pay tribute to those who
lost their lives in the terror attacks. Taking out a loan to do it, they
used their own funds to have the truck hand-painted with various depictions
connected with that fatal date, including the WTC twin towers, the names
of every person killed on all three planes, at the towers and at the Pentagon.
There are separate tributes to fallen police officers. As it travels through
the heartland, the truck keeps getting stopped by highway patrol officers
— who want to have their photo taken alongside the vehicle.
