Above: Thomas Curry (holding plaque) was too ill to attend when he and his partner, Nicholas Binetti, were honored at a recognition ceremony at his old 26 Pct. stomping grounds March 30. On May 19, 1971, Black Panthers seriously wounded Curry and Binetti in a machine-gun attack while the officers were guarding Manhattan DA Frank Hogan’s home. Both cops survived and continued their distinguished NYPD careers. The Curry family attended the ceremony, as did Binetti and his family, and his plaque was brought home to Tom Curry, who (in photo) poses with wife Mary Lou and grandson, Tommy Williams. On May 14, just five days before the 36th anniversary of the attack. Thomas Curry passed away. |
