Dan Malone, the new Bronx Financial Secretary, was appointed
to the NYPD in 1992 and, upon graduation from the Police Academy, was
coincidentally assigned to the 52 Pct., where he was born and spent his
early childhood. He became a PBA delegate in the 52 in the summer of
2003, beginning his long battle for the rights and benefits of PBA members
in that command and throughout the city.
“It’s an
honor to serve on the PBA Executive Board,” Dan said. “I
welcome the opportunity not only to continue serving the members to
the best of my ability, but also to be able to do it on the next level.”
In his time as delegate,
Dan — whose passion for service to labor came in part from his father,
who was active in the newspaper mail deliverers union — has responded
to countless shootings and other issues affecting PBA members. Dan
has also served on the PBA Contract and Finest of the Finest committees.
As a patrol officer,
Dan spent most of his time on the 4x12s
and late tours.
A Westchester resident
and Emerald Society member, Dan says that one of his most memorable experiences
came in September 2005, when he volunteered to join many other New York
City police officers in traveling to Louisiana to assist local law enforcement
officers with patrol duties in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
