STATEMENT ON CONTRACT
AGREEMENTS BY OTHER UNIONS
Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association President Patrick J. Lynch
said: Record numbers of police officers have resigned and retired
because of low pay and better paying law enforcement opportunities
resulting in 5,000 fewer police officers patrolling our streets
today than five years ago. This type of agreement would reduce the
starting pay for police officers making the recruiting and retention
problem even worse. It’s a perfect example of why no other
major city in America uses this one-size fits all arrangement called
pattern bargaining and why pattern bargaining can’t work for
essential emergency services in New York City.”
