The results of this study may lead to the inclusion of cancer as a recognized disease under the recently approved Zadroga bill. Just before Christmas, Pat Lynch made an appeal to the public through the media on behalf of Angelo "Santa" Grande who is in need of a kidney transplant. The story entitled "Santa Needs a Christmas Miracle" was widely picked up and ran on CBS 2, Fox 5 News, My 9 News and ran Christmas Day on WPIX 11 News. The story also appeared in the Daily News, the Chief Leader, and was covered by the Associated Press. It was published as far away as San Antonio, Texas and Burlington, Vermont and has hit dozens of internet news sites. So far, 45 people have contacted North Shore Hospital as potential donors and are being tested to see if they are a match.
