Police union warns members about paroled NYPD cop killer

A police union is warning members of the NYPD that a convicted cop killer who was recently granted parole presents a “clear danger” to officers when he is set loose next month, sources said.

The Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association sent out a “safety alert” to its members advising them that Herman Bell — who murdered two NYPD officers in 1971 — is about to be released, according to a law enforcement source.

“In the event of Bell’s release, all PBA members are urged to remain vigilant, both on- and off-duty, to ensure their own safety and to provide back-up to any other law enforcement officers in their vicinity,” the alert read. The PBA said it is exploring avenues to challenge the parole board’s decision.

Bell was one of three Black Revolutionary Army members who gunned down NYPD Officers Joseph Piagentini and Waverly Jones in an ambush.

His appearance before the board earlier this month was his eighth parole bid since 2004.

Bell protested his innocence all the way up until 2012, when he finally admitted he wasn’t a “political prisoner” who was framed.
