Noting in a CBS 2 News story that the NYPD fields 6,000 fewer officers today than on 9/11/01 (view PBA recorded, unedited interview here,) PBA president Pat Lynch calls for the hiring of 6,000 new officers. He also states that it takes over a year to recruit, hire and train new police officers. Lynch said that by the time we find out that staffing levels are too low, it’s too late to recover and that we are dangerously close to that point already.
