PBA reaction to City's benefits proposal to the MLC

Statement from PBA President Patrick J. Lynch

"The variable supplement funds and pension benefits that the city is trying to take away from police officers and firefighters today are the result of longstanding labor agreements that have benefited the city immensely over the years. The city realized billions from the agreements and now it not only wants to renege on the deals, it wants to do so on the backs of officers and firefighters who have already given their all and have a right to expect that the promises made to them when they were hired would be kept. This is not only bad fiscal policy that may result in low recruitment and increased crime rates, it's a violation of a trust."
