PRESS RELEASE

Statement of PBA President regarding Police Officer Veve and the accused 15-year-old assailant

PBA president Patrick J. Lynch said:

“Police officer Veve is a guy who not only lit up a room when he comes in, but he is the spirit of his command, he’s a top-notch police officer. You see that by how he was doing his job yesterday.  He was out on the street while the rest of us were sleeping making it safe, but unfortunately now he is in a hospital bed.

“What’s wrong here is that a 15 year old with a long rap sheet was on the street at all. He was locked up just the middle of May and he was already out on the street, injuring an NYPD officer. They talk about criminal justice reform. There needs to be reform. We need to keep people like him behind bars. When you are 15 and 16 years old, you know right from wrong.  He chose wrong, and because he did, an NYPD officer is now fighting for his life

“He absolutely should be prosecuted as an adult. His actions were adult. His past rap sheet is an adult. His mindset is an adult. And he made a bad choice for an adult. When you make a bad choice, you go to prison.”
