PRESS RELEASE

January 11, 2017

Police officers resigning at an alarming rate; Many seeking better pay with other police departments

PBA president Patrick J. Lynch said:

“These results confirm what the PBA found in its own poll of New York City police officers last year. Law enforcement has become more difficult and dangerous than ever before, and police officers across the country feel it every time they go out on patrol. One important difference between New York City police officers and our colleagues elsewhere: while 74 percent of police officers nationwide are satisfied with their Departments as a place to work, New York City police officers' morale is at rock bottom.  Eighty-five percent would not recommend a career with the NYPD to their own family members, and 89 percent would leave for another police job if given the opportunity.”
