PBA Filing Grievance Over Holiday Check Delay

Dear PBA Member:

I am writing to inform you that the PBA is filing a grievance over the City’s plan to delay payment of our members’ holiday checks. The NYPD’s Office of Labor Relations has informed us that the July holiday check will be paid in the third paycheck of the month, instead of being paid in the second paycheck, as in years past.

As you may recall, payment of the January holiday check was similarly delayed by one pay period. At that time, the City claimed that the delay was necessary to allow the Office of Payroll Administration to update its systems to comply with new tax requirements. This time, the City has offered no excuse for the delay.

This is not only a violation of our contractual rights. It also an insult to PBA members who are working long hours in extreme heat to meet the extraordinary security demands of the upcoming holiday weekend.

The PBA will therefore file a grievance seeking to bar the City from delaying payment of the holiday checks, and we will continue to pursue every measure to hold the current City administration accountable for its refusal to support our members.

As always, we will continue to update you on the status of this issue as our grievance moves forward.

In Solidarity,

Patrick Hendry
President
