PRESS RELEASE

May 28, 2014

Pat Lynch reinforces the need to bring Tier 3 disability benefits in line with Tier 2

PBA president Patrick J. Lynch said:

“Police Officer Rodriguez’s case has focused a spotlight on the devastatingly inadequate disability benefits provided under Tier 3.  NYC police officers in Tier 3 are presently the only law enforcement officers in New York State who are not awarded an appropriate pension when seriously injured in the line of duty.  It is imperative that Tier 3 officers and their families have the same fiscal protection from devastating injury as every other police officer in the state. The city has a moral obligation to ensure that those who risk their lives in service to the city are adequately cared for should a serious injury befall them.”
