Statement by PBA President Patrick J. Lynch re video purporting to show officer kicking another officer

PBA president Patrick J. Lynch said:

“As we saw a couple of weeks ago when, based on a misleading video, a New York City police officer was falsely accused of stealing a suspect’s money, these amateur productions don’t provide enough information about a police encounter to come to any conclusion about what actually transpired. The rush to judgment will leave this city with an impotent police department where police officers will be afraid to act and neighborhoods will be left to the mercy of the criminals. Resisting and interfering with an arrest is against the law. Just anyone with a smart phone camera should not be allowed to interfere with police operations and set the agenda.”
