PRESS RELEASE

January 3, 2024

PBA statement on assaults on cops

At an NYPD press conference today, Chief of Crime Control Strategies Michael LiPetri noted that assaults on New York City police officers increased by 350 in 2023.

PBA President Patrick Hendry said:

“New York City police officers are getting viciously attacked and injured because of the message on the streets. The message is that the system favors criminals over cops. Criminals who assault police officers are seeing no jail time, while cops are getting buried with paperwork and hammered with civilian complaints for doing our job. We need our leaders to work together to make our justice system do its job. But we also need regular New Yorkers to send their own message: we support our cops, not criminals and their anti-police activist allies.”
